New Tri-State Fundraising Committee and Campaign for Kids Kicking Cancer

After eight years in eight NYC hospitals,
Kids Kicking Cancer fights back to replace cut in Federal funding

Detroit, Mich., June 22, 2012 --- Kids Kicking Cancer (KKC) announces the launch of a fundraising campaign to replace funding lost due to government cutbacks that recently forced the 12 year-old organization to shut down its popular program in five of eight New York City–based hospitals. The initiative includes the enactment of a Tri-State Committee with the goal of raising $250,000 to keep KKC programs running in the New York area as well as to launch a new website, www.kidskickcancerNYC.org to motivate and track donations. KKC hopes to raise a total of $2 million globally over the next two years.

“Our goal is to restore KKC to its full capacity in the New York area so every kid who can benefit from the program has access to it,” said Reba Auslander, co-chair of the KKC Tri-State Committee and executive vice president of Chamberlain Communications Group, which does pro bono public relations for KKC. “When you think about how much support can be provided to these kids for $250,000, it seems like an injustice not to try to replace these lost funds.”

KKC is a nonprofit organization that provides weekly classes for children, helping them manage the pain of their illness and treatment through the use of martial arts breathing, meditation and imagery techniques. KKC not only teaches its kids to cope, but also gives them a sense of purpose during a time when many might want to give up.  After learning to control the pain, fear and anger that comes with battling a serious illness, KKC kids become teachers themselves, showing adults how to use breathing techniques to manage their own stress.

“There are many charities that supply toys and services to kids in hospitals, but we are the only organization in the world that provides these kids and their families power, peace and purpose to help them persevere in the face of darkness,” said Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, founder and director of Kids

Kicking Cancer. “In the past year we have expanded our programs to Canada, Israel, and Italy, and other regions are vying to get started, but it is imperative that our core program in the New York area – which just two years ago was working with 1,000 out of 2,000 KKC kids in the U.S. – stays strong.”

The first of several tri-state KKC fundraisers will be held on Thursday, June 28 at The Shannon bar in Hoboken, NJ from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $75 and may be purchased online at http://kkcny.ticketbud.com/shannon. The price of a ticket includes food, an open bar, live entertainment and raffle tickets. All proceeds directly benefit KKC.  Another fundraiser will also be held in Manhattan on Thursday, July 26 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Galway Hooker between 5th Ave. and Madison Ave.

All event information is housed at www.kidskickcancerNYC.org.

KidskickcancerNYC.org was developed by Chamberlain Communications Group and Ignite Health.

Kids Kicking Cancer

Kids Kicking Cancer, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded by Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, known as Rabbi G. to his students, who is both a black belt in the martial arts and a father who lost his first child to cancer in 1983. Rabbi G created the Kids Kicking Cancer program after serving for 12 years as the Director of a New York based summer camp for children with cancer.

KKC provides a range of services, not only for the kids, but by the kids to fulfill its mission to ease the pain of very sick children while empowering them to heal physically, spiritually and emotionally. In addition to providing weekly classes for children, both inpatient and outpatient, in the mind-body techniques found in the martial arts, KKC also instructs the parents, siblings and the medical personnel in these methods. Our instructors are invited to accompany their students and further assist them in the hospital rooms and clinics as they undergo painful procedures such as spinal taps and bone marrow aspirations.
